Living Alongside Bears: Separating Facts, Myths, and Realities

Join Ginny Apple, Master Wildlife Conservationist with DEEP, for an insightful talk on Connecticut’s black bears, covering their habitat, diet, behavior, reproduction, and current research. Ginny shares practical tips for peaceful coexistence and personal observations from living near Peoples State Forest, where she documents bear activity for DEEP. Her passion has also taken her to Montana for grizzly research.

Special meeting of the Conservation Commission

The Conservation Commission will meet in special session on April 21st at 6 p.m. at the Norfolk Hub to hear an outline of the plan of work for a Vulnerability Assessment for Critical Natural Resources in Northwestern Connecticut. The project will be carried out by students at UCONN who are part of the Climate Corps program there. Public comment will be saved until the end of the end of the presentation.

Join Ben Crocket of Berkshire Ag Ventures and Billy Gridley of Aton Forest for a discussion on how Connecticut & Berkshire communities are building organizations for a more resilient bioregion. Local farms, food businesses, and community members are invited to explore farmer-led approaches to climate change. Berkshire Ag Ventures, a nonprofit, helps farms and food businesses secure grants, bridge loans, and technical assistance.
