  • The Norfolk Hub (formerly The Norfolk Foundation) is entering into an agreement with American Folk & Heritage LLC to sell the Royal Arcanum building. The Norfolk Hub (TNH) has owned the Arcanum building for the past three years. A closing date is still under discussion.

American Folk & Heritage LLC (AF&H) is owned by Norfolk residents Emily Adams Bode Aujla, Aaron Aujla, and Dev Aujla. AF&H is an initiative founded in 2020 and dedicated to preserving American craft and handwork with a focus on America’s northeast. Through its partnership with Bode, AF&H has worked with institutions that include the American Folk Art Museum, Shaker Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.

The Norfolk Hub has lease agreements with all the commercial tenants in the building plus a master lease with the Foundation for Norfolk Living (FNL), a local non-profit affordable housing organization responsible for renting the second floor apartments. All second floor tenants have been notified of a pending sale.

Upon completion of the sale, TNH will allocate a portion of the sale proceeds to the Foundation for Norfolk Living to help with their continuing mission. They will assist the tenants in finding new living space. FNL’s president, Kate Briggs Johnson noted that they are very appreciative that a portion of the sale proceeds will help with their mission of affordable housing.

TNH co-president, Michael Selleck noted that the sale is good news as it will provide much needed new cash for other capital projects in town. All commercial tenants’ leases will be honored under the current terms.

American Folk & Heritage LLC is developing plans for the Arcanum. Their mission is to honor its history, heritage, and aesthetic as well as to support the commercial activity of Norfolk’s downtown core.
